Weekend Round-up: A Magnificent Seven!
A clean sweep for all the adult sides that had a game plus the oldest junior team, making it seven wins out of seven! We can access matches going back to 2007-08, and it is the first time since then that we have had a clean sheet with so many wins in a weekend. We have had clean sweeps of six matches four times, the most recent being 24th/25th October 2020 when there were wins for the Firsts, Thirds and Fourths on the Saturday and the Sunday XI, Sunday Reserves and Young Vets. All other teams had no fixture or suffered postponements.
So having said all that, let's go through all the successes! The First XI edged past AFC Green Court 3-2 after extra time at Farrow Fields to begin their Sevenoaks Cup campaign. Chris McGinty struck twice with Kyrone Standley also on target.
The Second XI were also at home and beat Kent United Reserves 1-0 in a league game, the goal scored by Tolani Aina on debut.
It was cup action for the Saturday Vets who won 6-0 away to Cobham Colts Vets in the Kent Veterans Cup. It seemed to be "jug avoidance" all round as Lloyd Miller, Shaun Cross and Dan Poynter all fell one short of a hat-trick!
The Sunday XI and Sunday Second XI both recorded their first October wins, both in home league games. The former saw off Spartans 3-1 (Mason Horne two goals, Paul Lee one) and the latter defeated Bexley Hawks 5-1, the goals shared between Ed Williamson, Charlie Killick, Max Kane, Alex Mason and Louis Clark-Wright.
The Red Vets were forced to cancel their fixture away to Bird in Hand Vets due to too many parental commitments over a half-term weekend. Apologies to the BiH.
The Yellow Vets also recorded their first win of the month, a 2-0 victory away to Eltham Vets, both goals scored by Faisel Hakimi.
October has been kinder to the Under 14s Boys who had their third win of the month, 2-1 at home to Bromley KYL. Zachary Pescatore and Gabriel Lloyd-Jones were on the scoresheet.
The Under 9s Stallions had no fixture.
Nanny Smith's Deli
The club would like to thank local business Nanny Smith’s Deli for becoming the new supplier of the Vets food on a Saturday and Sunday, and we thank Saturday Vets manager Ben Tomkins for brokering the deal.
To date, Rose has supplied ‘Platters of Joy’ for the Vets home team and their opponents. And very well they have gone down indeed with compliments from all away teams every week, along with the Guild Vets players.
Nanny Smiths Deli are also Club sponsors, who proudly support our Under 12 Mustangs junior side.
