Jack Standen Cup Winners!

The Sunday Reserves beat Blendon 3-2 in a thrilling match at the Westminster Waste Stadium, home of Bromley FC on Sunday 13 September before a crowd of 232, to win the 2019-20 Jack Standen Cup.  The two sides were both unbeaten in the league last season but never faced each other before the season was shut down, so there was always going to be an edge about this final.

It started badly for the Guild as they conceded a penalty to go behind after only five minutes, and things got worse for us when influential midfielder Mason Horne hobbled off five minutes later.

Blendon dominated the first 45 minutes and deservedly extended their lead from a corner on 29 minutes.

It looked grim for Farnborough but they must have used the interval to maximum effect because neither team looked the side they were in the first half. Two excellent chances went begging thanks to good goalkeeping but FOBG were on the front foot and had a man advantage after 65 minutes when Steve Townsend was brought down when through on goal.

It was Townsend whose lob five minues later reduced the deficit, and the momentum was with the team in yellow.  Paul Lee equalised with 15 minutes to go and you suspected there was only going to be one winner, and so it proved when Townsend converted a Chris McGinty cross to make it 3-2.

Farnborough saw the ninety minutes out with some resolute defending, as Blendon refused to give in.

All in all, a cracking match which was a credit to both teams, all officials and the OBDSFL.
