The lads came back strongly today after last week’s disappointment.

We had a squad of 16 players and only Barnett was missing due to injury. Sporting did not pose the same problems as when we played them earlier in the season and we were always a class above them in this match. They played an extremely high line in defence and we simply passed our way round them, our pace and accurate passing was too much for them. Their offside trap did catch us out on quite a few occasions but many of those were contentious decisions.

Farnborough had the game settled in the first half hour blitzing their way to a 4-0 half time lead. Laurent was on fire, completing a hat trick with some excellent finishing and Holmes added to the tally with a shot that the keeper should have done better with. Unfortunately Laurent had to go off after his hat track due to a niggling knee injury and Bridges came on to make his debut for the club. Farnborough put together some excellent passing play and it was pleasing to see every player getting involved, doing their job and making a telling contribution. Laurent’s finishing was 1st class and he can play with a bad knee every week as far as I’m concerned.

Darren made some changes at half time bringing on Myatt, Page (making his debut too) Hunt and Milner. Farnborough carried on in the same vein and scored more from Hunt twice and a goal for Page. Again the finishing was good and the goals were taken well. In truth, the scoreline could have been more if we had finished better and had beaten the offside trap more easily.

In between Sporting managed to notch 2 goals due to lapses in concentration by Burkett, probably because he’d had so little to do.

There are some more testing games coming up for us soon and the results will play an important part in where we finish in the table. Let’s keep on playing the football and the results will follow.
