Fourth XI
Gary Harrigan
1 - 4
Bexley Borough Res.

By Chee-Yong Lee

Nearing the end of the season for the 4ths and for this early match against Bexley Borough Reserves at home the 4ths squad was suddenly overloaded as there was a team of 16 players which meant that there were 5 substitutes, which in turn meant that 2 players would miss out. Confusingly the 2 players that missed out were arguably the 2 most loyal and dependable players in the 4ths that have been there all season in Chee-Yong Lee and Tom Smart.

So with this packed squad the line-up for this match was:

GK: Mark Edwards
Back Four: Tony Stanley, Todd Arnold, Dave Simon Harvey and Colin Brazier
Midfield: Richard Whitlock, Grant Kelsey, Matt Gardiner (he’s back), Ivan Kamara
Forwards: Dave and Gary Harrigan

Subs: Ade Adelata, Kaprice Abeysina, Michael Anim,

Chee-Yong Lee and Tom Smart (weren’t used and were just left standing on the touchline in the cold).

So as the match started it was an early start for Bexley Borough Reserves as they got a quick early goal followed by an early second goal. The 4ths seemed to still be asleep and not woken up yet.

They did start to get into the game but Bexley Borough Reserves were still passing it around well and playing clever passes, this led to a third goal to take Bexley Borough Reserves into a 3-0 lead at half-time.

At half-time and some minutes into the second half the manager made changes in Kaprice on for Todd and Ade on for Ivan. The 4ths were more positive and did grab a goal via a wonderful left footed lob shot that flew into the top corner with the keeper left standing, another sweet strike from Gary Harrigan. However, the 4ths didn’t use this to get another goal instead Bexley Borough Reserves almost immediately regained a 3 goal lead with a good goal for themselves and the match did end 4-1 to Bexley Borough but not before Michael came on for Dave Harrigan to get 15 minutes.

Leaving Chee-Yong Lee and Tom Smart on the touchlines without a game, what have they got to do???
