Elizabeth Jaques Cup
FINAL
By Colin Brazier
Fourths win Elizabeth Jaques Cup!
The Fourth XI completed their league and cup double when they won the Elizabeth Jaques Cup at Holmesdale Sports and Social Club on Wednesday evening, beating Eltham Eagles 7-1. This is full reward for player/manager Jez Allen's years of patient team building, now having a settled side that has grown together, with a combined appearance total of more than 1,700 (admittedly 602 of those have been made by Jez himself!).
After dominating the early stages they were jolted in the 15th minute when a speculative Eagles cross sailed into the far corner of Jez's net. They weren't fazed by this, however, a quickfire treble with goals from Tommy de Georgio, TJ Kode and Sam Clarkson putting the Guild firmly in control. Another from de Georgio before half-time cemented their grip on the game. Eltham fought gamely on but Farnborough added further goals from skipper Jamie Allen and a late double from 16 year old substitute Harry Burbidge to cap off a great night.
Jez set a unique record, having won this same competition 30 years ago almost to the day with the First XI!
