When I left the Club at 5.30pm on Saturday evening I quite expected to hear from Vic later on telling me the Sunday game at Bearsted would have to be cancelled as we only had seven players. To my surprise Vic worked his magic again and by 9.30 am Sunday we had 12 players. Alan, Andy and Ian had all managed to bring friends. So after brief introductions in the dressing room and finding out that most of our players had been away from football for at least 4 years, it was hardly any surprise that after 20 minutes we had conceded 3 goals and knowing the quality of the Bearsted team double figures looked on the cards.

We did create a couple of chances from breakaways and John Pereira in goal pulled off a couple of fine saves, so at half-time it was still 0-3.

We were now better organised and if they did break down our defence, John was pulling off vital saves which kept us in the game. After about half an hour we pulled a goal back. Barry Curtin put Pete Wheeler through and he rounded the keeper and slipped the ball into the empty net. Five minutes later Barry broke through, rounded the keeper and with the goal at his mercy he managed to hit the post from 1 yard.

We kept pushing forward and ten minutes from time Barry got on the end of a cross and calmly fired home past the despairing keeper. We continued to press forward in search of an equaliser but the final whistle beat us.

Although we were beaten, Bearsted are a very useful side and despite a makeshift team we gave a good account of ourselves and for the second week running the whole team worked and we never gave up, so we nearly managed to sneak a draw.

This Sunday we play Baltic Exchange who smashed us early in the season. So let us hope we can continue to churn out these fighting displays, and with the return of some of our regulars we might be able to turn the tables.
