Match Report

On Sunday morning we played the Met. Police, a team that have always seemed to be slightly stronger than us. But as we have been getting results this season we were optimistic about our chances.

It took a long time before we started playing our attractive passing game with the first half being mostly a dour midfield battle
with both sides struggling to put any moves together. Ten minutes before half-time we managed to get into their penalty box, Ian Clarkson then Peter Skinner both had shots blocked, but Nigel Hanington yet again found the net with a well placed shot from ten yards off a defender.

We held onto our lead until about 30 minutes were left when one of their forwards broke through and was brought
down by our advancing keeper. The rotund referee awarded a penalty which Clive saved but unfortunately the ball rebounded straight to the kicker who scored. This seemed to inspire them and they were attacking more and
more. Gibbo was having a good game at the heart of our defence keeping their skinhead centre forward at bay.

We then took the lead again with 20 minutes to go. I would like to spend at least two pages describing the goal but threats from team mates and lack of memory prevents me, all I know was a ball from Dave Edwards put Rob Godley away on the right, Rob crossed and I volleyed into the net.

Almost straight away Gilesy put Rob through again and he calmly smashed it into the roof of the net. Two minutes later it was 4-1. This time Gibbo's long ball was chased by Rob who this time chipped the ball over the despairing keeper. They did pull one back with a couple of minutes to go from a corner, when Clive punched Paul Gibbs instead of the ball and their player headed in.

Victory again which was achieved by a lot of hard work and everyone contributed to this fine result. Thanks to Andy Harrold for reffing and special thanks to P & J Catering for the excellent buffet.
