Match Report
Saturday 27th November 1993

Two O'Clock Saturday the 27th November we ran out of the tunnel into Farnborough's version of the San Siro. The Farnborough faithful were on top form lead by Vic Farrow and Graham Bailey singing "You'll never walk alone" followed by the Mexican wave.
As the Referee's whistle blew signalling the kick off, I felt a touch of nostalgia as this was my home debut. We quickly settled into the pace of the game playing some exquisite passing football and after 20 minutes we were 2-0 up from nice goals from Prince Sterling. The score remained the same until the first minute of the second half when Graham Donnelly finished a nicely worked goal. This was shortly followed by Prince's third goal. It looked like there would be an avalanche of goals, but the visitors staged a brief comeback scoring an excellent free-kick and a dubious penalty making it 4-2.
We soon got over these slight setbacks and moved into fourth gear playing some vintage football. Dave Bandell (The Liverpool Fan!) came on for the injured Geoff Jones and Dave "The Dive" Edwards came on for Nick Waller who was "Knackered". Dave Edwards had been on the pitch for one minute when he mysteriously disappeared to take off his pants? - it made a huge difference to his game.
We scored another three goals courtesy of Gary Napier, Prince Sterling and Dave Sexton making the score 7-2. Then came the most controversial moment of the match, Dave Edwards went on one of his jinking runs through their defence only to be viciously hacked down. If he can dive like that on a regular basis he will be playing in Italy very soon. Paul Bailey stepped up for the penalty sending the goalkeeper the wrong way then superbly toe-punting the ball into the centre of goal. 8-2 second round here we come!
In the clubhouse after the game we discussed the game, Prince ran us through his four goals and Dave Bandell rambled on about old decrepid Everton players until we were all fast asleep.
Thank you!
