Second XI
Djan Akwasi
1 - 3
Seven Acre Sports

By Sam Evans

What a lovely bunch of blokes Seven Acre Sports are. It was a pleasure to share a pitch with them. Djan put us 1-0 up on the half hour, heading in a cross from man of the match Paul Burford. This was a good goal, although whether it merited Djan’s John Travolta impersonation is questionable. Seven Acre equalised soon afterwards, a scrappy goal from a corner. We competed well throughout the first half, Chris Greenhough and David Geonaga battling well down the right hand side. Richard Davies in the middle tried to get the ball down and play at every opportunity. The first half was also notable for a good performance from their number 18 in centre midfield, and the 5 bookings his teammates picked up, all for dissent. We felt positive at half time, and expected to create more chances in the second half.

Sadly it wasn’t to be. Seven Acre managed to focus on their game and moved the ball at pace around the edge of our box, causing us problems and scoring twice. We might have conceded a third in the second half were it not for some good saves from Matt Riley and a goal line clearance from Pete Morton (as per last week). Unfortunately for you Pete I’m also going to mention the time you trod on the ball when you had space to run into. Jack Harding turned in a good display at left back having been out for a few weeks and Paul Parsons was solid in the centre. The introduction of players from the 3rd team throughout the second half revitalised us and all 3 turned in good performances – Chris Viner in left midfield, Jay Blay in centre midfield and Lee Brackell up front. Lee combined well with Paul Tanton but unfortunately we weren’t able to force a goal, although Tant went close. Paul Burford also contributed his trademark cruncher on their number 18. Next week is the last game of the season against Wilmington. They’ll need the points for the title so we have added incentive to do the double over them.
