Match Report
Saturday 4th November 2006
By Paul Parsons
Five enforced changes this week including a fine MOM performance from Rod Stoyle in goal, was just too many to work with.
We needed some consistency after last week''s excellent performance and we got none. A dour encounter where neither team looked likely to score, scrapping valiantly in midfield, but with no real enthusiasm or bite. At the back both teams looked comfortable, even if the opposition did have the highly rated Harry Downer (ex FOBG) upfront, he had little to offer against the experience of Steve Viner and myself. Joe had an excellent solid performance at right back, but this really summed up the whole performance. It was solid but not exciting.
Old Colfes scored a penalty after 15 minutes against the run of play, when Djan rose for a header and swotted the ball with his arm. Then we got got back to 1-1 when from a long goal kick from me got the faintest flick on from Simon Davies and Ben Tomkins ran on and slotted home. Again summing up the game as route one and not pretty.
Second half Colin at left midfield and Pete Morton started to gel and pressure continued down the flank, but again nothing got in the penalty box. Jay in midfield held his ground quite rightly, but no opportunity to attack came his way and it was the same for Antony at right midfield. Richard Tapsfield got on for the last 15 minutes, but rarely touched the ball upfront, so had no opportunity either. The killer blow was with three minutes to go, the opposition sprung the offside trap (Todd), got to the byeline (Todd) and fired in a low cross that was flicked in, (difficult to do the line isn’t it Todd!?!?) Todd was VERY honest by the way, with the referee looking at Todd on the line and he said it was all ok. No complaints from me, we just switched off.
Look at the home game match report (HERE) to see how different it was!
Sterner opposition awaits this week. Let''s get back to winning ways.
NB It emerged that Harry Downer had not signed the appropriate transfer forms so was still registered with FOBG. The points were subsequently awarded to Farnborough by the league committee.
