The disappointment of another home match washout - and possible double header game added to the end of season fixture pile-up - was alleviated by the arrangement of the alternative venue of Goddington Park for the game, a testament to the hard work that goes on behind the scenes of football clubs by managers and fixture secretaries.
South Star, flying high in the league and with a cup final place booked, were to undertake the game without their full squad to choose from and could have taken the option to run with a postponement, but full credit must go to the way they liaised with us to ensure the game went ahead.
The start of the game however, belied the fact South Star were weakened as they were quickly two goals to the good, one a dubious effort as the oncoming forward clearly forced the ball from Mark Friend''s grasp and was left with simple task of finishing into the undefended goal.
As the half progressed, Farnborough began to play a more purposeful and composed game with Djan Akwasi and Gary Harrigan bossing the centre of the park, regularly creating space and openings for our wide players and forwards to move into. Chances began to arrive, but it was an unlikely strike from Harry Bidewell that brought us back into the game, a long range effort that the goalkeeper mishandled into his net.
A good tempo from our side was now being achieved and Bobby Moulson, after having a couple of efforts thwarted, scored a fine equalising goal, finishing from the tightest of angles after his original strike had been charged down.
With Farnborough taking advantage of the sloping pitch in the second half and South Star clearly suffering through injuries to players, the smell of victory was on our players'' nostrils. Chances came and went at regular intervals, but the necessary composure in front of goal had deserted us and infact South Star had a couple of their own chances to grab the win. As the referee blew for the final whistle, a sense of unfulfillment was felt amongst our ranks as everyone knew a victory should have been taken.
As we approach the final months of the season, it is quite clear that this side is improving steadily and we are now able to compete when we have players unavailable for fixtures, due to the regular additions of quality players to the squad.
Hopefully, this will ensure that the enthusiasm to be in the starting eleven each week will lift everyone''s performances for the rest of the season.
