A disappointing afternoon, compounded by the non appearance at the venue by players selected for the game, but who had not advised Vic or Des of their unavailability.

The group of players who wore the club''s colours for the day were a credit to Farnborough and were unfortunate to have not earned more from the day''s efforts.

The early passages of play belonged to the fired up opposition who sensed that they would be able to overcome the untried unit of players facing them. An early goal for the hosts from a poorly defended corner seemed to underline their confidence.

As the half progressed Farnborough gradually began to get a foothold in the game as Dan and Gary began to see plenty of ball in the central midfield areas, and after some near misses Gary Harrigan finished crisply from 25 yards to bring the sides in to the break at one apiece.

The second period began brightly for Farnborough, but the good work was undone by a 40 yard clearance from the Colfeians defence landing in the no man''s land between goalkeeper Mark Friend and his retreating defence, which was dispatched by the oncoming forward''s toe to give our opponents the upper hand.

Farnborough responded well and almost equalised when Laurence Smith collected Mark Friend''s clearance, stepped inside and sent his shot against the crossbar. Our better attacking options seemed to be coming down the right flank, with our new addition Harry Bidewell producing an impressive second period of play.

Due to the nature of Farnborough having to chase the game, space began to appear in areas of our rearguard and Colfeians took advantage of this with a slightly fortunate third goal. Farnborough again picked up the tempo of the game and after a collection of free kicks awarded just outside the opponents'' penalty area, Gary Harrigan dispatched one of these directly into the net to guarantee a frenetic last few minutes of play in the Colfeians final third.

Old Colfeians held on to ensure their passage into the next round of the cup.
Overall a good team performance produced with limited resources.
