The lads keep on coming up with all the answers at the moment.
Today we were up against tough opposition away from home and without our captain Fullone and missing Laurant, they were both off enjoying themselves in Spain. So, no Fullone at centre back and no captain and a tricky fixture. The quiet, unassuming Jake Adams took up the task of filling those boots as central defender and captain. Take a bow Jakey, you were awesome as the yanks say. Adams’ performance allowed us to remain solid at the back and all get on with our usual game. But make no mistake this was a big team performance with everyone making a contribution. Keyworth, playing in central midfield, was an absolute pest to the opposition closing them down constantly all over the pitch it seemed! Holmes crowned a busy, reliable performance with a goal and Stevens made his usual addition to his goal scoring total also.
There was only 1 minute on the clock when Stevens thundered in a free kick from 20 yards, just a few minutes later Holmes looped the ball over the keeper from a Stevens throw in and not content with that, Bridges headed home an Adams free kick to score the third. All of this meant we’d raced to a 3-0 lead within 25 minutes, Santley looked all over the place and it could have been more. They rallied slightly in the 2nd half but didn’t find a way through our defence. Milner replaced the injured Burkett in goal at half time but neither of them had a thing to do all game. Holmes scored but was given offside, somewhat harshly I thought, and could have had a hat-trick with more clinical finishing. So, 3-0 it remained, but what a performance!
The season is marching on and we keep doing the business, still top of the table and let’s hope that’s where we stay until the end. We have everything to play for and an unbeaten league record to protect. C’mon Farnborough!
