Another decent performance saw us go back to the top of the table today.
Playing on the main pitch we made use of the extra space and were comfortable winners. Darren had 16 players at his disposal and AC just had the bare 11. AC rarely threatened and when they did Burkett was there to stop them, making two good saves and another punched clearance off the head of one of their attackers when it seemed certain he would score. I think we are still coming to terms with playing on the bigger pitch but I still believe it suits our game better.
We started the game somewhat slowly but gradually got into our stride. Fullone was in control at the back and the midfield quartet of Adams, Stevens, Keyworth and Wray were on top giving us width and plenty of possession. Stevens crashed a shot against the post and moments after netted from a free kick after their keeper had carried the ball outside the box from a goal kick. Shortly afterwards and not long before half time Bridges collected the ball just outside their box with his back to goal. He swivelled on the bouncing ball and hit an unstoppable shot which looped in over the keeper’s head. 2-0 at half time.
AC made a spirited start to the 2nd half and we seemed off the pace. Myatt, Holmes and Page had been brought on for Laurant, Bridges and Thrussell. We looked a bit lethargic and but gradually got a hold on the game again. Stevens headed in from an outswinging Wray corner and they managed a consolation effort in the last minutes. Stevens restored the difference with another well taken free kick which sailed in over the keeper''s head.
Another two points and thoroughly deserved. Well played lads.
