Match Report

In last week''s report I warned everyone that Milldean''s ground is a tricky place to find. Well it certainly was for me. I think I did at least 6 u-turns and when Adam Dawson beats you to the ground by 20 minutes, you know you''re having a bad day. I will be asking Father Christmas for the latest Sat-Nav. Apologies for my transport shocker.
Anyway we kicked off and started really well with some good moves down the flanks and some nice passing football. However after not capitalising on this early dominance we started to do the wrong things. Our passing got worse and so did our marking. With Milldean''s giant pitch you need good passing and to be marking tight to your men. We were 2 nil down by half time but we knew if we raised our game we weren''t out of it.
The second half again we started brightly and seemed to have sorted out our marking problems. Adam Dawson pulled a goal back with a trademark free-kick into the top corner. We had several half chances before the following happened…...
Whilst watching ''A Question of Sport'' on a Friday night I never realised that Farnborough could be involved in the ''what happened next, round'' against Milldean. With about 20 minutes to go and Farnborough losing 2-1 Adam Dawson''s free-kick is deflected into the path of Daragh Nott who bobbles the ball into the bottom corner. We all run off back to the half-way line celebrating. Only to turn round to see the referee had awarded a goal kick. Apparently the ref thought the ball went wide, a truly amazing decision. The game turned a bit chaotic with Farnborough protesting/arguing and Milldean trying not to laugh at the decision. The only explanation I can think of is that the referee couldn''t believe Daragh actually scored. Daragh is not in the side for his goalscoring ability. Anyway justice was done when Adam Dawson was brought down in the area and converted the rebound after his penalty was saved. The game ended with Farnborough pushing for a winner but Milldean looking dangerous on the break. I think 2-2 was probably a fair result.
Anyway another week unbeaten and with 5 players missing. We now have only lost once in 8 games, hopefully we will continue this into the new year
Jason got Man of the match, Daragh never scored and Judgie got the kit (much overdue).
Ps. Xmas drink will take place in Beckenham this Saturday in O''Neill''s from 3pm.
