Match Report
Sunday 10th December 2006
By Paul Tanton
A well earned but hard fought point which should have been 3 points but for a couple of goals disallowed and Midfield being awarded a hotly disputed penalty.
Again we looked defensively solid with in-form Matti Wright winning man of the match with another dominent display. Matti must be playing well because I haven''t heard him moan for ages. Going forward we also looked good. Nana finished an excellent sweeping move midway through the second half which obviously shocked the Midfield team as they started arguing amongst themselves. We looked in control until Midfield were awarded the penalty in question. They scored the spot-kick. We bounced straight back and Adam Dawson finished to give us the lead again. However Midfield scored following some excellent 2 touch passing move even though there was a suspician of hand ball during the build up.
To be fair Midfield probably deserved at least a draw due to the amount of possession they had and a couple of missed chances late on. Last season they won the league and you can see why, showing what a good passing side they are; however the Sunday side are on a bit of a roll. Everyone looks keen and we know exactly how we are going to play. Availability and results have improved and we had 3 decent subs and have only lost once in seven games.
Apart from feeling a bit robbed (not for the first time) I was very happy with the attitude and performance. The whole team worked tirelessly and competed for every ball.
My only moan is timekeeping; I don''t expect players there mega early but about 10am at the ground would be nice. On Sunday I had to wait for 2 or 3 important players which mucks up our preparation. This week we have Milldean away which is tricky place to find (map and full address on the website), so leave a bit earlier.
Looking at recent results, everyone is dropping points so if we keep the same level of commitment I can''t see why we can''t finish in the top half of the table. We need to continue this good run with a win at Milldean before the Christmas break. On the 23rd December is the annual Christmas drink-up at a venue to be advised. Please try to come even if just for a couple.
In the New Year the cup starts and I want a cup run.
