Match Report
Sunday 29th October 2006
By Paul Tanton
A good point against the odds. I knew at the start of the week that we could possibly be stuggling for numbers with Dawson and Benningfield already unavailable, but suddenly on the night before the game Judgie and and Nana both become unavailable.
Sunday morning Barry is also unavailable so our attacking options are severely limited. Still, a chance for me to get the boots on and we trudge out a solid looking side which would hopefully stop the other team scoring and nick a goal or two at the other end.
The first half kicking up the slope we restricted Lessa to mostly long range pot shots and the game was a midfield scrap. Matti Wright''s thumping header at the far post gave us the lead from excellent corner from Sam Small and we went in half time a goal up.
The second half as we tired Lessa came at us and put pressure on our goal. Unfortunately we conceded with 10 minutes to go but held out for a draw, the least our effort deserved.
I thought it was a fantastic effort and attitude from everyone that played in a hard fought draw. The defending and marking was again excellent (3 goals conceded in the last 4 games) especially in the second half. The team spirit was there again and seen in the bar afterwards as well. Daragh got man of the match closely followed by Matti Wright.
Team was as follows - Edwards, Pragnall, PG, Cobham, Wright, Small, Connelly, Daragh, Miller, Tanton, Head. Subs Pester & Parsfield.
Village and myself are going on sabbatical for a month and leaving good ship Sunday team in the safe hands of Pester & Connelly. They will be picking the side so please be as helpful as possible.
