Farnborough OBG FC

Match Report

Sunday 22nd October 2006

Sunday XI
Adam Dawson
1 - 1
Milldean

By Paul Tanton

A well earned point against a very good Milldean side who are clearly in a false position in the league. I expect them to move up the league as they have the players to cause many teams trouble.

Milldean had the better of the 1st half having several good chances but failing to take them. Our defence and midfield stood up to plenty of pressure, marked well and closed Milldean down quickly. The 2nd half was different and although Milldean took the lead with a goal that took a couple of deflections, we pinned them back, pressing higher up the pitch and looking the better side. Adam Dawson scored from the spot after Barry had made the defender deliberately hand-ball it. We had several other half chances as we finished the game the stronger side.

I was very impressed by the attitude and spirit which made this such a pleasing performance. Our passing was excellent, especially 2nd half where we switched play well bringing both full-backs into the game and using the nice wide pitch at Farnborough. The banter in the changing room was back to its best and if this continues teams will know they have got a game on their hands. Another good thing was everyone being there early, probably to the great disappointment of my mobile phone company (my shares in O2 lost a few pence). Man of the match was won by my ex-lodger PG closely followed by Nana also an ex-lodger, although the votes were again spread with several players amongst the votes (the sign of a decent performance as stated in last week''s report).

This coming week we have Lessa away and we need to display the same attitude and spirit. I also thought the ref had a good game as well.

Thanks again to players who roped off the pitch and tidied the changing rooms. Anyone that had the misfortune of playing at STC on Saturday will know what great facilities Farnborough have. Also thanks to Jay Hardy when he eventually arrived for helping us out at short notice and playing very well when he came on as sub.

Right I have done the praise bit now, now for the moans. Again, availability: we had 6 players missing, this needs to improve as the team again picked itself, a couple of players had to play out of position and we had very few options on the bench. My other moan is about one player who will remain nameless who convienently forgot to take the kit, however don''t be surprised if Colin Judge doesn''t have a trip to the launderette in the near future.

Lastly a couple of dates for your diaries, the annual Xmas extravaganza will take place on Saturday 23rd December. Starting local (the clubhouse) and then heading into either Bromley or Beckenham. The end of season trip has been narrowed down and next year we are going international to either of the following locations - Cork or Eastern Europe and will take place the last weekend in May. More info will follow on both of these social events.
