Match Report
Saturday 7th March 2015
By Jez Allen
Our first game at home for a while seemed to bring a renewed enthusiasm to the squad today. With 16 players selected picking a starting line up was tough. We probably had one of the strongest 4th teams in the clubs long and illustrious history today.
We started brightly and were soon one up courtesy of a header from Harry following some great build up play and a fantastic cross from Lloyd - a supporter commented to me as he walked his dog behind my goal that is was probably a contender for goal of the season.
The opposition then went down to 10 men following an incident which saw Myles booked for reacting to a kick from an opposition player. Harry picked up a booking for pushing the same player who reacted badly - he picked up a yellow for the kick and another yellow for pushing Myles and we all know that 2 yellows equals 1 red.
We then made it 2-0 with another header from a corner this time from Dan Herbert. Craig then got in on the act tapping home following a good save from the keeper from a Graeme Barnes shot.
Shortly afterwards it was 4-0 this time with Graeme Barnes slotting home.
So 4-0 at half-time. All 5 subs then came on for the start of the second half.
The second half was a different story to the first. We struggled to get on top and our passing was not as crisp as the first.
We ended up giving away a penalty which Jez saved diving low to his right. This is Jez's third penalty save in the last three home games. Some thought that the ball had crossed the line and had hit the inside stanchion by the wheel of the goal but the referee didn't agree so it goes down as a save to Jez!!! Jez then came to the rescue again with a fine save diving low to his right to push a volley round the post - not bad for an old man (the opposition were frequently overheard referring to the age of the FOBG 4ths keeper and not in a nice way!!).
So another clean sheet. A good performance in the first half followed by an indifferent performance in the second half. We have now scored 88 goals this season. Is this a club record???
Man of the match: Dan Herbert (but Jez Allen did get
