Ed made the decision to change players around for this encounter, with a crucial game coming up, it was the chance that some of the players were looking for to impress the manager.
Farnborough cruised to victory after a faulty start. We created all the pressure in the first half but were being frustrated by a dogged Bexley defence, with their goalkeeper intercepting everything that Joe Oatley and Peter Morton could fire in from the flanks. With Ben Duffy coming close on a number of occasions and Paul Burford just unable to get a clean shot away it was looking likely that Bexley might have got one on the break and undo all our hard work. Ivor Swatton needed to pull off a great save with the end of a stud to push one wide of the post. We attacked after a long punt upfront from Ivor landed to Peter who duly took on the Bexley defence resulting in a corner. Peter swung one in and it fell sweetly for Paul B. to side foot into the net with a minute left in the first half.
The team talk was all about keeping shape, discipline and as usual playing it out wide, particularly to Joe. From the kick off a goal was scored! To make matters even better it was for us, and everything was falling into place. Richard Coyne pumping the ball towards the corner flag, Joe catching up with it, turned the defender and powered a great cross into the path of Richard who had somehow made it to the penalty area to smash home the second. A deflated Bexley Park then lost composure and Paul Burford scored a great header and missed his jug by hitting one over. Ivor made a dramatic tip over trade mark save, to keep the goal difference down, and Joe finished a splendid MOM performance when he fired one in from a very tight angle.
