3 point Saturday returns
Another win, another game where we didn\'t get out of second gear. When we do play like we can for 90 minutes we will give some team an absolute hiding.
Our usual slow start meant that we were 1 down early on. We really have to stop starting so badly. We were second best all over the park. We got back into it undeservedly about half hour in. Matt Ellis assisted himself by falling over in the area to win a penalty. As much as it pains to me to say this, he never looks like missing pens, and gave the keeper no chance.
At half time we all agreed that our performance really wasn\'t good enough. Russ reminded us all that even though we were poor it was still level. He\'s an amazing motivator. The first 20 minutes of the second half were the best we\'ve played all season. We were pressing high and winning every second ball. 5 minutes in Bill Webb skipped down the right and put in a worldy of a cross. Recently renamed by deed poll, Zander Barnes was on hand to finish well from 10 yards. Al Barnes would have skied it, but Zander is a much more controlled player. Zander wins headers an all.
The 3rd, and decisive, goal arrived a few minutes later. Bill racing clear, knocking it round the keeper and being brought down to win a pen. Top goalscorer Matt Ellis stepped up again and slotted it home. I tried to substitute him before he could take it.
I came off the bench with 20 to go to shore things up. Instead ofring things up, I proceeded to fall over in comic fashion, right in front of our bench. Super.
Late on their centre back took one if the funniest free kicks I\'ve ever seen. He tried to blast the ball at Barnes. Missing by a long way, the ball smashed into his mate and rebounded into the path of their forward. If he meant it it was class. He didn\'t though.
Gibbo\'s kicking verged on the outrageous. 90 yard balls to feet. I think the sleepover him and Russ had last week has helped him to bond with us.
MOM was a close run thing this week. Lloyd Miller pipping Matt Reynolds to the award by a single vote.
A good result against a well organised oppo. Especially as we had a lot of players missing.
We found out before the game that Matt Reynolds thinks he looks like Steven Gerrard. Bless him.
Cup next week, hopefully to keep this run going. I personally think we are the best team in the world, and our match day clobber is beautiful.
