Sorry for the late report, only found out that I had been asked to do this on Tuesday pm.
I was also advised that the report last week was one of the funniest that had ever been written and Lee (The Hack) Sheppard…a term used within journalism, but could also be used to describe last week''s game..! was asked for another tale.
After good back to back wins, a match against a team that was riding high in our division was a match we were relishing.
E-mails from Vic and then a text message to rally any friends that were of a good standard, or available, fit, walking etc gave us the total sum of…………..The Couch….! He even then advised the changing room that he had been drinking since 6pm Friday evening, and was one of the last people in his hotel bar at 3am.
Life at Farnborough is never dull..!
The game itself was a hard fought battle and the spirit we showed against Zampa can only bode well for the Thirds. We should be very satisfied with that display, and I was proud of every one of us for our commitment, and maturity shown.
We had a couple of good chances in the first have with Ben Duffy going close and Chris Viner also trying his luck. An Alex free kick also went close after I won a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. Zampa had a chance, but Mark again made a solid stop and was the quickest to react to the loose ball to keep the game at 0-0.
The half time talk was letting us all know that we needed more of the same. We did this well for most of the half with Zampa only having a handful of chances to break the deadlock.
A free kick to Zampa midway into the second half had Mark setting the 4 man wall on his left post. The wall was set, and Paul Parsons advised us to make the wall BIG (not hard for some of our larger men..me included). We did this, and waited as their stocky number 14 smashed the ball against us……..I mean me. Luckily the 300 sit ups I now do every day held me in good stead, and I was able to move again within a couple of minutes. Thank God there was not a call from the defence to clear the ball and move up to the half way line. I was struggling to breathe, let alone move. On closer inspection of my body I later found a perfect round red mark with the brand name of ball supplier on my stomach. I hear you ladies, thank God it was not his face.
With the Tapsfield jug already banked for this week I might get a lift down the club this week cause I feel a jug fest coming on…!
Thanks to The Couch for doing the line all game.
Also Thirds'' Mexican on the 10th December so anybody that has not advised Sara Viner of their food order will be getting cheesy nachos, chicken fajitas and ribs.
Sorry to use the match report as my order form but the above is fine for me and Kelly.
