Match Report
Saturday 3rd December 2011
By Nick Barclay
After the disappointment of last week\'s result it was back to winning ways against River Plate on Saturday.
With the formation staying pretty much the same and although River Plate had lots of early possession they never really threatened, as we were well organised from the back and soon become more confident about playing from the back with good disciplne and shape. We found ourselves increasingly taking hold of the game and found ourselves in front when Tom Smart picked up the ball on the right, looked up and went for a cross field pass to the left landing right in the path of the oncoming Tommy Noad who took the ball in his stride before entering the box and placing his shot in the far corner for 1-0.
We kept the tempo quite high but River Plate were determined and soon found themselves back in the game when a slight indecision in the box allowed their man to shoot for 1-1. We talked at half time about keeping the tempo high and with growing confidence in the second half we raised our game further and the rewards came with a sweeping move playing from the back through the midfield. We attacked in numbers, James Foyle burst down the right flank and crossed sweetly for Connor Barclay to slide in from a midfield run ahead of the defenders for 2-1. With the need to make a couple of substitutions we managed to still dominate without creating that many chances and with 8 minutes left Tom Smart who had run himself into the ground with a great performance was replaced by George Jardine whose pace and awareness led to a well deserved 3rd. We won a free kick on the left hand side and as the ball came over everybody, George was ghosting in at the far post and planted a powerful header low inside the post much to the delight of the whole team...this was a really well desreved win and the team showed great spirit all round. There were notable performances with the back four picking up 9 votes overall...man of the match Tom Smart.
A nice sight to see us move up the table ..bring on Keston next!!
