Match Report

The 4ths finally got off the mark at the weekend, with a thoroughly well deserved win at Lord Hood. With the new players beginning to settle and the team starting to take shape we knew it wouldn\'t be long coming.
We began well with the midlifled controlling the early possesion and playing the ball to feet and within 8 minutes it paid off, Scott pushed up behind the midfield and pushed a nicely weighted pass past a confused defence leaving Steve Blanchard to finish from the edge of the 6 yard box. 1-0.
As the confidence began to grow through the team the midlfied trio of James Pyne, Neil and Connor began to dominate the game. We kept our shape well and were bringing players into the game, the second goal came on 25 mins; Tommy Noad attacked down the left and past the defenders to the line, he then squared a perfect pass to the feet of Stevie Blanchard who took his chance superbly slotting the ball around the keeper into the top corner. 2-0.
The opposition found it very difficult to get into the game through the midfield and the back four stopped them every time they were called into action. It wasn\'t long before the 3rd goal came, James Pyne put another telling ball through for Connor to run on to, he then lobbed the ball past the oncoming keeper and defender before coolly volleying into the empty net for 3- 0.
It was great to see everybody so positive at half time and we talked about the importance of keeping control of the tempo and trying to finish the opposition off and soon we were 4 up, Alex King picked up the ball in our half and his slide rule pass set James Foyle off on a jinxing run. He went past his marker before cutting into the box and finishing sweetly in the bottom corner 4-0.
There was bound be a time when we stepped off the gas and for a brief 10 minute period we lost our way, conceding 2 quick goals from set pieces as a result of failing to clear our lines. Lord Hood were back on the up at this point (although both sides were looking tired) and it could all have been very different in the last 15 minutes had they not have hit the post (yes good luck was on our side for once). This was the final wake up call we needed before kicking back into gear as we started to attack again.
it put them on the back foot, with 10 minutes left Alex King picked up the ball from fully 70 yards and broke past the oncoming midfielders as he flew down the left side. Tommy, Connor and James were supporting and waiting in the box for the cross unmarked, Alex somehow managed to squeeze his shot in past the keeper for a fantastic solo goal..this broke the resolve of the opposing team and we saw the game out quite comfortably in the end.
Young Steve picked up the most votes for man of the match (and there were notable performances all over the pitch..Let\'s hope we can carry on next week with more of the same.
Man of the match: Steve Blanchard (jnr)
