Queen Mary Cup
2nd round
By Richard Tapsfield
A return to Farrow fields saw us in league cup action against a side who sit joint top of the division with us, so we knew a tough game lay ahead. The away side started brightly without creating much before Knight struck the post with a great effort and then shortly after a blunder from the visitors\' keeper on the edge of the area allowed Ahmed to tuck in to an empty net. Shortly after the Guild grabbed another two quick goals, the first from Knight and then a penalty from Ahmed.
At half time we lost captain Johnson and Lenton to injury but still produced a good second half display, and despite a late rally from Chislehurst Godward put the tie to bed scoring the goal of the game. A good ball in from player manager Barnes found Godward on the edge of the box who neatly flicked the ball over the defender\'s head before volleying high in to the net with his left foot.
It capped off an excellent display which was quickly followed by our first night out, which I\'d like to expand more on but I can\'t really remember much of it. However I\'ve heard it went pretty much as expected, Godward and Barnes getting creepy, cricket boys Knight and Clarkson sharing a bottle of rose, Lenton committing early doors to the first female who showed an interest and Russ getting a bottle of champagne in at 1.45am, just before the lights came on...
Team - Clarkson S, Pile R, Johnson L (Tapsfield R), Ellis M, Martin D, Hussey J, Lenton S (Barnes A), Law A, Knight M, Ahmed A, Godward D (Cross L)
