Tom Cooper (Open) Trophy
Group B
By Jez Allen (just a few notes!!)
We started this Tom Cooper (Open) group game with 12 which included the welcome return of Scott Barnes as a sub. Luke Allen was right back (for the first time for FOBG), Rhyse Elliott was left back. We were missing both Steve Blanchards (Nurburgring, Germany) and Colin (Crewe, Cheshire). Neil was seen walking around the clubhouse prior to the game clutching his no. 4 shirt for fear of something happening to it as this was our last home game of the season!!
We were on the main pitch against a bare 11 for Premier division Rotherhithe. We were two nil up at half time after playing really well. I kept us in the game in the second half with some crucial saves before we dominated the game with our crisp passing and superior fitness. To be honest we should have scored a few more. We now just have to beat Croydon by 9 goals to get to our second cup final. Alex scored from a quick free kick that took everybody (including us) by surprise and proceeded to celebrate on his own (a weird sight!). Tom scored a good goal from outside of the box but it did take a deflection on the way in!!
Note sure who got MoM but Connor's running and commitment to win the ball were excellent, although several people could have got it. Luke and Rhyse were excellent in their respective positions. Scott came on for the final 10 minutes of the game for his first game following his broken ankle.
All in all an excellent day.
Man of the match: Connor Barclay??
