Second XI
James Learmouth, Joe Hussey, Louis Hussey, Russell Nethercot

Another good win for us, all be it against a rather limited opposition. It's fair to say that Old Colfeians are struggling a bit this season, hurt by the loss of a lot of their first team at the start of the season, they went in to our game bottom of the table having failed to register a point in their opening 7 games. Given the fact that we had put 9 past them in our opening fixture I found myself a little nervous before the game worrying that we might be a bit complacent and end up slipping up. Thankfully though I didn't need to worry as the boys put on an efficeint display from start to finish, to comfortably claim the 3 points.

We lined up as follows:

(GK) Jim St John
(RB) Ben Dutton
(CB) Chris Charlton
(CB) Luke Johnson (C)
(LB) Dave Martin
(RM) Al Barnes
(CM) Matt Ellis
(CM) Louis Hussey
(LM) Joe Hussey
(CF) James Learmouth
(CF) Russ Nethercot

Subs
Dan Head

We again started brightly which was good to see and quickly dominated possession, grabbing an early goal in the process. Some good movement down the right ending with the ball at James' feet just inside the box and he unleashed a fierce drive in to the corner of the net, an excellent finish for his first goal for the club. The rest of the half was a bit of a non event, we had a lot of the ball but didn't seem to use it quite as well as we did in the early stages but we did create one further chance right on half time. Dave Martin did well to get to the byline and whipped in and a great cross from the left which Nev rose to meet with his head, only to see the ball come back off the foot of the post.

We knew we needed to get a second goal as quickly as possible after half time to finish off Old Colfs, who had defended well in the first half led by their pasty centre half - who was excellent throughout. As the game went on we started to create a lot more chances and soon had a second when Nev tapped in to an empty net after the keeper had made a good save, although their was a hint of an own goal as the defender smashed it in to his own net as he tried to clear it on the line! Soon after that we wrapped up the 3 points when Joe Hussey followed up a goal mouth scramble by firing low in to the net and then not to be out done older brother Louis finished the scoring with our 4th after good work and a square ball from Ellis left him a tap in at the back post.

All in all a reasonably good performance with Luke edging fellow centre half Chris for the man of the match and a special thanks to Jumbo for stepping in goal to replace the injured Sam. I also have to congratulate everyone for putting up with playing in an unwashed kit, which had sat in the back of Nev's car for a week! Having informed me of this just before I left the club I thought we'd be fine as I had time to grab the old Wood kit, however unfortunately I didn't realise we were playing the only other team in the country that plays in a burgundy kit, what are the chances! Needless to say those shirts absolutely stank and Stu and I found ourselves backing away whenever anyone came over to take a throw in by us!

Finally a special mention to Al Barnes who officially has the worst boots I have ever seen. To anyone outside of our team that is reading this, please take time out to admire these little beauts one Saturday, as they need to be seen to be believed! They are a purpley pink colour and made by Puma, absolutely horrific!

Next week is back at home to Seven Acre Sports Reserves as we look to make it 3 in a row.

Man of the match: Luke Johnson
