Beesley in for Miller, Brown in for Small, and Adams omitted through illness. Farnborough went into the game with a squad of 13 but a strong 13 at that.
Following on from last week's tough encounter with the league leaders, Farnborough went into the game against Otford knowing that 3 points would see us leapfrog the opponents into 4th in the league. The weather wasn't kind however the surface was still impressive.
Farnborough started well, dominating early possession without really causing serious threat to the opposing side's keeper. As the half drew on the home side were looking good with the ball but way too lacklustre without it. Otford were given too much time and space when they had the ball and with a little more quality could have caused serious problems. A quite forgettable 1st half came and went with the scores locked at 0-0.
The half time team talk left nobody in any doubt as to what was expected. Move the ball quicker, stick to your jobs, know your limitations/expectations and work harder to win the ball back.
Whilst it wasn't quite like watching Brazil, the second half was a big improvement for the home side. The first goal came from good hold up play by Wilson who fed the ball back to D Clark, finding Wray out wide. Wray ran at two defenders forcing the second to bring him down in the box. Benningfield converted the resulting penalty confidently. The second came from substitute Freeman-Roach who converted from close range with his first touch following an M Clark free kick. The third, and Freeman-Roach's second, was scored not long afterwards with good footwork that left the fullback on his backside and a composed finish which gave the keeper no chance. The game was then played out without threat to the home side's goal.
By no means the best performance of the season but three goals for, none against and three points bagged. All that matters in the end and something that decent sides make a habit of.
MOM this week was D Clark...definitely aided by the fact his opposing number was 11 years his senior, was playing his first game for 4 years and had borrowed his son's boots! A welcome change from the last two games.
This week we face FRSH Utd. A very good side who currently sit 3rd in the league. Earlier in the season they were beaten by the odd goal putting 4 past The Blues and scored 9 against Otford Colts last time out. They can obviously score goals! We played them back in November in probably the worst conditions I have played in and they were more than a decent outfit. Another tough test for The Guild.
