Match Report
Saturday 16th January 2010
By Chee-Yong Lee
The Fourths first match for 5 weeks after a mixture of the Christmas break and bad weather, however this match was probably the only match that was still kept on in the Borough after most of the other games were called off due to waterlogged pitch.
So on this cold and rainy afternoon the line-up for this match was:
GK: James St John (Jumbo)
Back Four: Mark Friend, Steve Viner, Steve Blanchard, Mark Edwards
Midfield: Chee-Yong Lee, Tom Smart, Dave Harrigan, Chris Landy
Forwards: Gary Harrigan and Danny Evans
Subs: Todd Arnold
AFC Bromley kicked off the game with this rain still coming down, and it was Bromley that was the brighter of the two teams in the early exchanges of the match. Bromley were creating the chances but standing in their way mainly was the great goalkeeping of Jumbo, pulling off some great saves, the closest Bromley went was an effort that was cleared off the line by Chee. However there is only so much a keeper can do and that meant that Bromley eventually took the lead. This goal seemed to spur Farnborough into action as we seemed to see more of the ball and started battling and winning the balls and it was the pressure of the last 10 minutes of the first half from Farnborough that brought a nice equaliser via the left foot of Gary Harrigan from the edge of the area as it took one or two minor deflections.
So at half-time it was 1-1 and Farnborough were lucky it was just 1-1 as it could have been 3 or 4 to Bromley if it wasn’t for Jumbo.
On with the second half and the start was more even than the start of the first half, but it was still Bromley getting the chances but they still couldn’t put it away past Jumbo. With about 60 minutes into the match Farnborough decided to bring on Todd Arnold for Chee-Yong Lee. Was this change crucial? Did it seem as though Farnborough were looking for a draw?
Well as the game went on Bromley started to dominate the match again and they did eventually find another way past the excellent Jumbo, and unfortunately a third followed the second for Bromley quite quickly, Bromley then literally put the game to bed with a fourth although Farnborough did grab themselves a well created second with a nice cross field ball from Danny Evans on the half way line from right to left which was taken down by Chris Landy who had space to run into and beat a committed defender that left a chance for Chris Landy to cut in and have a shot which is what he did but it was saved but Danny Evans was there at the right place to tuck away the rebound. However this didn’t swing the balance of the match in favour of Farnborough instead it was Bromley that was the team to grab another two goals to finish the game off for the final whistle.
