Match Report

Before the match in the changing room we were just reflecting on the number of players we had utilised in the 12 games we had played to date. In fact we had used enough players to field an A and a B team plus extras - 30 in all. We fielded a good team for the return match against Toby Vets but hopes of a repeat of the brace of goals I scored in the last game were dashed when the formation was written up and my name continued to appear in the back four (Chris Bays must have paid Toby well!!). The last game was close and we knew we could get a result against Toby.
The first half was probably the best football we have played for a long time. We were all playing the ball to feet, moving and getting the ball forward. The defence was looking good and Toby Manchip did not have to make any real saves. The only thing that was lacking was goals. We should have had this game won by half-time, the amount of effort that everybody put in. As it was the score was 0-0 at the break.
We started the second half as we finished the first, applying pressure but gradually the big pitch seemed to be taking its toll and we started to lose our shape and momentum. Inevitably Toby (Vets and M) scored a lucky goal in more ways than one. A long range shot was pushed onto the crossbar by Toby Manchip but the rebound hit him on the back of the head and went in...just one of those things. This revitalised Toby Vets somewhat and we just could not get the ball forward. They ended up scoring a second and our hopes of winning our first game in 2005 disappeared.
The Christmas break is now upon us so an ideal time to rest for those carrying an injury and concentrate of your fitness....yeah right bring on the turkey and Christmas pud.
Happy Christmas to all involved in the club and see you in 2006.
