Match Report

Last minute equaliser gets Fourths a point!
At the start of the match we were expecting the worst and I think most people were, however it wasn’t to be as we got a well earned point, even though we were down to bare 11 after pull-outs and drop-outs. So it was a bit weaker at the back but we still stuck with 4-4-2, this is how the line-up looked:
GK: James St John;
Back four: Tom Smart (RB), Michael Seymour (LB), Mark Edwards and Steve Viner (CB);
Midfield: Chee-Yong Lee (RM), Chris Landy (LM) James Halford and Sam Small (CM);
Strikers: Gary Harrigan and Matt Gardiner ©
So with the team sorted out with a make-shift RB, we went into the match wanting to end on high going into our last match before Christmas and the New Year. On paper we expected this to be very hard to achieve and the odds were stacked against FOBG, but all we needed to do was to work hard.
At the start of the match Chislehurst Dynamoes started quite confidently but FOBG soon got into the match themselves and this match was quite evenly balanced, with work rate being shown all over the pitch. It was actually FOBG that were getting the better chances with Chris Landy and Matt Gardiner testing the keeper in the 1st half. Chislehurst Dynamoes didn’t really get a proper chance on goal in the 1st half, their only real chance was superbly blocked by Steve Viner. FOBG CM were working hard and spreading it to the wings, and in the 1st half it was everyone working hard to keep the score at 0-0.
Going into the 2nd half we knew we just needed to keep it up as we have struggled in the 2nd half. So on with the 2nd half and it was still really quite balanced for the start of it, and it was good to see that everyone was still putting the same amount of effort as they did in the 1st half. Chislehurst Dynamoes were getting pressurised on the ball which were bringing the chances for FOBG with chances for Gary Harrigan and Matt Gardiner, with his shot flashing just past the post after some good individual work and cutting the ball back onto his left foot. Chances were falling for FOBG as the match started to open up with Chislehurst Dynamoes pushing further up wanting their expected win.
We thought we had the goal when a ball was played through and was slotted into the back of the net by Gary Harrigan but it was then questionably ruled out for offside. Soon Chislehurst Dynamoes had a real chance in the 2nd half and it did result in a goal for them about 85 mins into the match, so this looked like all FOBG's hard work was undone, however a few minutes before the end of the match the pressure from FOBG got a deserved equaliser via a Gary Harrigan finish on the turn as it fell to him 6 yards out. To celebrate Gary ran all the way to the half-way line like Emmanuel Adebayor, nobody could keep up with him. With a few minutes left we still had to stick with it and work hard all the way to the end of the whistle, and that’s exactly what FOBG did. A hard worked and a more than well deserved draw, could’ve been more.
Well Done to FOBG Fourth Team in this match as everyone worked so hard all match and it was a deserved draw against a team 2nd in the league and a positive end for Christmas.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
P.S. New Year's resolution – To start winning matches.
