Match Report
Saturday 10th October 2009
By Chee-Yong Lee
So yet another cup match, our last one, and yet again it was an opponent from a team in the division above in Old Addeyans. We all knew this was going to be another difficult match continuing from a difficult start to the season. So with manager Des on holiday it was left to Mark Edwards to manage the team, so this was the team he chose:
GK: Mark Edwards;
Back four: Michael Seymour (RB), Colin Brazier (LB), Todd Arnold and Mark Friend (CB);
Midfield: Ben Jones (RM), Chris Landy (LM) Tom Smart and Tony Maillerdet (CM);
Strikers: James Halford and Danny Evans
Subs: Steve Viner and Chee-Yong Lee
Even though we knew it was going to be a tough match we were still confident and ready for this, what could be our last cup match of the season already, so as we kicked off Old Addeyans took early dominance in the match and created the better chances. However it wasn’t all one sided as we had a few efforts from long range and were getting a few corners and James was doing well to get up and win quite a few headers but unfortunately it was coming to nothing.
Old Addeyans then took a fortunate lead after Mark Edwards made a good save with his legs but it bounced off Mark Friend and fell in front of an open goal to an opposition forward to tap in easily.
It was a bit more even after this goal as FOBG replied well and had a few long range chances but as Old Addeyans had chances they were denied by Mark Edwards, who had a very good game.
FOBG did manage to keep it at 1-0 at half time so we were still in this match. About 10 mins into the 2nd half we needed a change as the injured Todd Arnold went off for Steve Viner.
So we had a little reshuffle at the back with Mark Friend moving to RB and Michael Seymour at CB to provide a bit more pace at the back as cover.
The 2nd half was almost a mirror image of the 1st half with the same story with long range shots from FOBG with Old Addeyans having more of the ball.
There was a chance after a very good run from Chris taking on a few players and getting into the area but unfortunately his pass turned into a shot but it was a good run. With 20 minutes left Ben Jones decided to come off and so Chee-Yong Lee came on to take his place as a straight swap. It didn’t make that much of a difference and soon it was 2-0 as Mark Edwards was finally beaten. It wasn’t really a lot of time left to change the game. However there could have been an opportunity to open up a chance with Chee-Yong Lee racing down the right and all he needed was a ball to get slipped through but the ball never came through as the ball was then lost.
So the game finished with FOBG knocked out of their last cup of the season and all have been knocked out by teams from the division above so it was an unfortunate draw in all the cups. Now we can concentrate on the league now and improve on our performance from last season.
