Match Report

Bridon Ropes deserved the win, however we must be disappointed not to have given them more of a game. We came out confidently in the first 10 minutes, with passes arrowed to the flanks, and crisp challenges from the midfield quagmire. Geof Ray made a welcome return from injury and Bluewater boredom, with a fine display in goal. With 10 minutes on the clock he sent a missile down the right for Adam Steward to neatly control, turn and sprint past his marker to fire a shot narrowly past the inside post. From this resulting chance Bridon upped the tempo with strong challenges and good running off the ball. From an innocuous throw in Bridon caused confusion in our box and it was flicked on to the far post and in from one of our defenders. A carbon copy goal within the next 10 minutes, a great save from Geoff one on one, and another goal after excellent running from the Bridon forwards brought us in at the break 3-0 down.

At half time we talked about getting a goal back early on, and to leave the pitch at the end of the game feeling we had given the final 45minutes our best shot. The first 20 minutes was all us. We created pressure, and from 3 resulting corners, the Bridon keeper made two excellent saves and an incredible double save from Josh Travers. We kept at them and deserved a goal of quality when Piers Moss, Ben Tomkins and Adam linked well down the right with good skill and pace which Adam finished neatly. Unfortunately Bridon responded again and for the third time in the game got a flick on from a throw which again sailed over and in at the far post.

The final 15 minutes saw Bridon tire and again we had chances to score with Piers having the best of those, but also we did not pull the trigger enough and try our luck on the difficult surface. We looked rusty after our enforced 8 week break and the forwards, midfield and defence looked like separate units today, something we need to change sooner rather than later. The league is still in our hands and we know we can play better.
