This was always going to be a crunch match, our early season form now a distant memory, despite beating Tulse Hill 6-2, our recent efforts had not proved productive and lady luck seemingly having deserted us.
Our pre-match warm up resulted with Alex Wray breaking his nose by a clash of heads and departing to hospital seemed to sum up our recent fortunes! Down to 12 men before we even kicked a ball did not sink the boys'' hearts and their early efforts were rewarded with a scorching header from a corner by ‘Big George Carter’; even that Rio F would have been proud of!
Continued Farnborough pressure resulted in Sam Fryer receiving an excellent long ball, lobbing the keeper, who whilst managing a finger tip lunge just helped the ball into the back of the net. 0-2 up with only 20 minutes gone, things looked promising! The remaining 20 minutes were evenly matched, but Tulse Hill managed to pull one back, 2-1 half time.
An unfortunate strain led to Milner coming off which resulted in a team shuffle and reorganisation. The second half should have been plain sailing with both the pitch slope and wind in our favour. However, Tulse Hill came out the stronger and went close on several occasions. The Farnborough back four were valiant and resolute for some 30 minutes before a Tulse Hill weak kick rolled across the goal face and went in off the post, 2-2. It looked as if Farnborough would do well to hold on for the remaining 10 minutes plus injury time.
With no more than 30 seconds to play a quick Farnborough attack resulted in a corner. The ball was crossed and dropped into the middle of 10 players, the resulting mêlée saw Jake Adams in typical centre back style, ‘hoof’ the ball high but to everyone’s amazement and relief it settled into the roof of the Tulse Hill net! 2-3, job done.
Good performance boys but we did make it hard for ourselves!
With two weeks rest in front of us before the next game against West Wickham we can only get stronger!!!!!!!!!
