Finally, a well deserved win

I watched the game again with Ed, and what really impressed us was the way the whole team pressed Bermondsey at every opportunity thus not allowing them to settle. Special to mention to centre forward Alfie who did not stop running backwards and forwards, and left and right, every time their keeper and fullbacks had the ball. He covered a lot of ground.

Although Dekks was not involved today, he said to the changing room after the heavy defeat against Orpington that every player has to work back after losing the ball, to try and win the it back again. Well they listened. Today (like last week) the whole team did this for ninety minutes - and it paid off.

Dropping Kal back into centre mid alongside Tommy just worked. Best I’ve seen Kal play in a long time. And as like last week, they both stopped the opposition midfield from trying to control the game. Big difference.

Another big difference was the fact that Dan and Tony had a full bench of substitutes to utilise. Myself and Ed said after last week’s loss that if we had had two or three subs, rather than a bare twelve, we would have got something from the game. The bench played a big part today in the second half.

Smithy came on and gave the oppo something new to deal with. We were in front and changing it to a 4-4-2 rather than Alfie upfront on his own worked. Again myself and Ed said it would be good to see Alfie and Smithy form a partnership. And special mention to Smithy’s sublime back heal goal to take us over the line.

MOM for me today was David who returned after a three week absence. At centre back he was a rock. And remember he was up against a front two who were fifth in the league going in to the game. Additionally, with Gary behind the back four, constantly organising, the whole defence looked much more solid.

Well done everyone. It was well deserved.
