A win but a disappointing display. After flying out of the traps we should have really gone to town on an unorganised team.
We took the lead in the first minute after some good play and movement between the midfield and forwards left Jamie with an easy tap in. At that point our tails were up and we soon went 2 up; a long kick by Jumbo was misjudged by the defence and a lucky-shinned-shot by Liam trickled into the net.
At this point we should be enjoying the game, but instead we became complacent and they began to apply the pressure to us.
Sloppy marking and an inability to hold the ball lead them to scoring 2 goals before half time. 2-2 at the break.
Second half started much the same as the first with Cray having a lot of possession but not looking a threat.
We took the lead again after good work by Mike set up Lee for a simple finish.
The joy did not last long as again we let them back into the game; 3-3 with 10 minutes of the second half gone – with Cray looking the more likely to score. As the game progressed, Cray pushed men forward in an attempt to win the game. This however benefited us as in the closing stages Cookie Jnr struck twice as Cray were left short at the back.
The lesson for this must be to close a game out without being complacent and without panic. We are more than good enough to win the league but must raise our footballing game to make sure.
