NEWS
Dave Edwards stands down
Dave Edwards has decided to stand down as FOBG Sports Club Chairman after more than twenty years in the post. He will remain as Chairman until the club's AGM in November with Steve Viner deputising for him in meetings. Dave has said that finding the time to devote to FOBG has become increasingly difficult but he will be around to offer advice whenever required.
The Sports Club handles all the Guild's off-pitch business, including the infrastructure of the ground, utilities contracts etc.
We would like to put on record our thanks and appreciation to Dave for steering us through a busy period for the club, not least the Covid outbreak, and leaving us in such a strong position going forward.
Weekend round-up: 16/17 March
The rain waited until Sunday to disrupt this weekend's programme!
The First XI suffered a second straight home league defeat, going down 2-1 against Fleetdown United despite Liam Cormack giving us an early lead. The visitors responded with two set piece goals but manager Paul Eddleston was equally frustrated with his team's poor finishing. The opposing management team was relieved to return home with all three points, being very complimentary about the home side's play.
The Second XI 's first of two home semi-finals, against Crofton Albion in the Ron Pope Cup, ended in acrimony and the referee abandoning the match after he had awarded FOBG a late penalty with the visitors leading through a second half goal.
The Saturday Vets had a game to forget, being beaten 8-3 away to Old Pepys Vets 2nd XI which has turned the race for the title into an exciting four-way affair. Scott Hayhoe, Dave Harrigan and Neil Davies found the net for Ben Tomkins' side.
The only game in our Sunday schedule to go ahead was the Under 13's home league encounter with Sevenoaks Town, after it had been switched to the 4G at Darrick Wood School. The Guild finished up 6-1 winners to go fifth in the table, with Harry Lauder hitting four. Ralphie McKiernan also featured on the scoresheet, as did Louie Collier with his first goal for the club.
The Colts' home Selkent Cup One semi-final against Phoenix Sports Pumas has been arranged for next Sunday 24 March with a 2pm kick off.
Toby Manchip's Funeral
Toby's funeral at the Bluebell Cemetery, Halstead and Bull's Head Chislehurst went off very well on Thursday 7 March. The service was full to capacity, in fact as many people stood outside as were inside, and there was an online facility to watch as well. The ballroom at the Bull's Head was full of people remembering Toby in a Celebration Of Your Story as the family put it! Former Senior Vets co-manager Patrice Mongelard was one of many to share their memories. You can see his tribute HERE.
Below is the order of service. Click on each page to see an enlarged version in a new tab/window.
