NEWS
New First XI Management Team
We are pleased to announce the new First XI management team of Dan Scully (manager) and Tony Gilham (assistant manager).
Both bring a wealth of local football experience and a passion for developing players on and off the pitch. We’re excited to have them on board.
We’d also like to sincerely thank everyone who applied for the role. The standard of applications was excellent and we really appreciate the time and interest shown by so many people who care about the club and local football.
Dan tells us “Tony and I are very pleased to have been welcomed into this fantastic club and are both looking forward to working together with the team”.
Please join us in giving Dan and Tony a warm welcome to the FOBG family!
Dan and Tony
Dan Scully
Started his managerial career with Green Street Green Rovers, winning the league in his first season (Sevenoaks division 4). Moving onto Cudham United, Dan was there for two seasons, winning the league (Sevenoaks division 3), the Smiths Cup and the Fisher Shield making this a treble winning season, before taking a short break away from football. He then returned to a club in difficulties in Crockenhill just before the start of the 24/25 season. This was a complete rebuild mission, and the club had had no wins in two seasons and were struggling, Dan finished this season at Crockenhill with eight wins, four draws and safe from relegation in 9th out of 13 teams, and a healthy squad and a manager to move forward with.
‘’I have lived in Farnborough all my life, and although I have managed three different clubs, Farnborough is always a team I had hoped to one day be involved with due to my roots and the people I know involved, such as club Chairman Danny Saines who managed me when I was young at Polhill lol’.
‘’This will be a big challenge and it will take a little time to rebuild and get this project moving In the right direction. Tony Gilham and I are very much looking forward to the challenge and both believe this club deserves big things’’.
Tony Gilham
Had a long and successful playing career at many Kent clubs up to semi-professional level. Taking on his first formal coaching role.
“I feel that it’s time for me to make the move into a more managerial role. Having played for and with some top players and coaches over the years, I am looking forward to passing on my experience and knowledge to the new and existing players at Farnborough OBG. I am excited to join Dan Scully and the players to see what we can achieve together. A very varied skillset and many life experiences will be invaluable to use to get the team firing on all cylinders as we start this new project. I hope to bring some fight and positive energy to the squad and club, as well as utilising my many years of knowledge across various disciplines to apply it to what we are looking to achieve.”
Weekend Round-up: 15/16 November
A tough day for the First XI as they were thrashed 9-0 away to Orpington in the league. A difficult start for the new management team, but they know they have taken on a big project and that with established players leaving the club following Luke Johnson's departure, a long rebuild lies ahead.
It was a good day for our Saturday Vets teams in their league games, both played at Farrow Fields. The Saturday Vets beat Catford Wanderers (2008) Vets 6-2, courtesy of a hat-trick from Danny Oakins and strikes from Pete Kavanagh, Lloyd Miller and Lloyd Thompson. The Saturday Vets Reserves defeated Eversley Vets 4-2 through goals from Jimmy Layng, Joe McGee, Chisa Mkala and Alex Barnes. Both FOBG teams sit on top of their respective tables after seven matches each.
It was Kent cup day for our Sunday league adult teams. The Sunday XI exited the Kent Sunday Premier Cup, losing 6-2 at home to Champions FC, having led 2-1 at the break through two Dave Bentley goals. The Sunday WESFA XI were edged out 3-2 away to Hayes & Pickhurst in the Kent Sunday Junior Cup. George Osman and Louis Clark-Wright were on target.
The Red Vets' match away to Chelsham Vets was called off because of a waterlogged pitch, while the Yellow Vets had no game scheduled despite a wide search for opponents last week.
Harry Field, Tommy Gray and Chaz Favata scored for the Under 15s Boys in their fine 3-1 league win at Cray Wanderers Ambers.
The Under 13s Mustangs' top of the table clash at Tulse Hill Royals fell foul of a waterlogged pitch.
The U10s Stallions played another match in the Autumn Chalice Five and as it was a competitive game we can report the details. Unfortunately it didn't go our way as we lost 4-2 away to West Wickham Sky. Issac Allchorne and Samuel Murray were on the scoresheet.
The Under 9s Foals played a ladder match.
