Glyn Farrell

All at FOBG are deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Glyn Farrell. Glyn played over 850 games for the Guild, as well as being club treasurer and then chairman.

The club's older members will remember Glyn with affection and respect.

Our condolences and thoughts go to his wife Sue, sons Paul and Kevin, family and friends.

R.I.P. Tania

The club were saddened to hear the news of Tania Todd’s passing last week. Tania was a big part of helping us grow the relationship between the club itself and the members of Farnborough Village. As most know Tania worked tirelessly to help make the Farnborough Village community what it is today along with other volunteers. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and villagers who knew her.

Weekend Round-up: 29/30 March

The First XI lost their unbeaten record in the league as Agenda got the only goal of the game in Abbey Wood. Manager Luke Johnson took it philosophically, describing it as "One of those days". They are still in a very strong position to win the league title and have the Sevenoaks Charity Cup final to look forward to on Good Friday.

The Second XI were knocked out of the Beckenham Hospital Cup, losing 4-1 at home to Beckenham. Jack Hollidge was on the scoresheet.

A hat-trick from Gary Harrigan and Matt French's second goal of the season helped the Saturday Vets get back to winning ways in the league as they swept aside South East Athletic Vets 2nds 4-0 away from home.

The Sunday XI provided the one highlight on Sunday, beating a good Palace Saint Germain outfit 1-0 at Farrow Fields with Lewi Lee's first goal of the campaign. The two teams play the reverse fixture this weekend with Vince Wray's side going back to Coombe Wood School, scene of their cup semi-final win against FC Elmstead.

The Red Vets were denied a share of the spoils away to Greenwich Challenge Vets by a late penalty decision, leaving them on the wrong end of the 3-2 scoreline. Leading scorer Steve Sheppey was again on target, with David Lee becoming the side's 21st different goalscorer this season!

It was a day to forget for our two older junior sides as both slipped to league defeats. The Under 14s Boys lost 4-0 away to Dulwich Village while the Under 12s Mustangs fell at home to Wandsworth Lions by the only goal of the match.

The Sunday Second XI, Yellow Vets and Under 9s Stallions had no games scheduled.

The Under 8s Foals enjoyed their game. FA guidelines prevent us from giving the score or scorers.

Sunday Second XI player Alex Mason will be participating in a charity boxing match in aid of CASPA on 5 April in an Ultra White Collar Boxing event at the Westcroft Leisure Centre in Carshalton. CASPA (Community Autistic Support, Pride and Advocacy) is a local charity that has been providing invaluable support and enriching experiences to autistic individuals and their families since 2002.

Farnborough Social Club - Parking

Please note that Farnborough Social Club (NOT FOBG!) now have their car park controlled by an ANPR system. If you park there and are not registered, you could receive a fine of £150. It may be possible to buy a day permit from their bar.

Run, Pearcey, run!

Under 12s Mustangs joint manager Neil Pearce will be running in the London Marathon on 27 April for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. 

It is a fantastic cause dear to the heart of FOBG. Please read his story HERE and contribute whatever you can.

We wish Neil all the best with his training and of course the race itself. He knows he won't be looking quite so happy after 20 miles but it will be worth it!
