Happy Easter from all at FOBG
British Summer Time starts this weekend so the clocks move FORWARD one hour this Sunday morning. Don't be late for your game!
The First XI's recent poor run continued with a 4-2 defeat away to Stansfeld O&B Club in the league. Ed Williamson and Kalum Daini were on the scoresheet.
The Second XI were beaten 3-0 at home by Sporting Club Beckenham in the semi-finals of the Queen Mary Cup. The two sides will meet again twice more this season, in the league and the final of the Ron Pope Cup, the date of which has still to be arranged.
The Saturday Vets had no game scheduled; however they have been awarded the points from their 1-1 draw away to Warlingham Super Vets who were found to have played an ineligible player. Ben Tomkins' side now find themselves top of a very closely contested table.
The Sunday XI also had a free week but there was action for all our other Sunday sides.
The Red Vets were beaten by a very fit Bellingham Vets at Farrow Fields, going down 6-2. Jay Gasson and Paul Tanton were on target.
The Yellow Vets emerged 3-2 winners over Reigate Priory Vets at home. Dave Rose, Danny Mullins and George Kleanthous found the net. George reported "We came from a goal down twice to win and in a really competitive game against a good football side.".
The Colts reached the final of Selkent Cup One with a convincing 4-1 home win against Phoenix Sports Pumas. John Phillips hit a hat-trick. He seems to relish cup matches, as seven of his season's tally of eight goals have come in cup ties. Harley Lee was the other scorer. The final will be on Saturday 20 April, at a time still to be determined.
The Under 13s had a good 3-0 away league win against Greenways Aces with a double from Harry Lauder taking him to 42 goals for the season. Chaz Favata contributed the other goal.
Dave Edwards has decided to stand down as FOBG Sports Club Chairman after more than twenty years in the post. He will remain as Chairman until the club's AGM in November with Steve Viner deputising for him in meetings. Dave has said that finding the time to devote to FOBG has become increasingly difficult but he will be around to offer advice whenever required.
The Sports Club handles all the Guild's off-pitch business, including the infrastructure of the ground, utilities contracts etc.
We would like to put on record our thanks and appreciation to Dave for steering us through a busy period for the club, not least the Covid outbreak, and leaving us in such a strong position going forward.
We are currently looking for players to strengthen our Saturday First XI and Second XI squads.
