For the second week running, getting a team out was quite challenging for George & Phil. We only had 10 players available on the Friday, we had lost our regular keeper and it wasn’t until Saturday evening that we had 14 confirmed. We had run out of ideas for a replacement keeper, so Waine stepped up and despite the score had a great game.

This was a tough one for us and the mood was a bit sombre in the changing rooms and the bar after. We didn’t enjoy this game which was quite evident. Although we played our football, they seemed to dominate most of the pitch and their front two were being fed some excellent balls from their midfield. Our passing was a bit scrappy at times and we gave the ball away more than normal. We did however create numerous chances and their goalkeeper must have been their man of the match. He made some really important saves which could have turned the match around at any time.

Going down 3-1 at half time was hard for us because we do not normally concede that many in the first 45 and we knew we were in for a match in the second half. Their first was a great goal from their mini-striker, a lovely lobbed chip that took Waine by surprise.  Their next two were from defensive errors unfortunately, where we gave their other striker a little too much space, his first was a scuffed shot that just crept in, but his second was well taken. Our goal came from a thunderbolt shot from Hillsy (which took a slight deflection) and hit the back of the net. Unfortunately, we lost Hillsy at the end of the first half (groin injury) so a shuffle at the back was needed.

The second half went well for us as we started to attack them more and press more, which meant they started to give the ball away. We scored two goals, one from a Peter Harvey free kick (slight deflection we think) and a lovely finish from Disco Dave. This caught them by surprise, but they managed to rally and get another three past us with some really good attacking moves leaving Waine with no chance.

We had some good food in their bar and a few drinks, which helped improve our mood. So onwards and upwards to next week.

Man-of-the-match: Votes were very spread this week, Manty, Waine, Peter, George, Jay, Simon, John and Gabriel. However, the final vote went in favour of Dave Morgan, who did have a really good game, ran his socks off, pressed, tackled and got a good goal.

Man of the match: Dave Morgan
