Well here we go…..a new season underway and what a great start.

We started the day with the same old dramas: players dropping at the last mo'' and Djan running late, but hey ho that’s the way it goes.

Getting to the ground I was shocked with the condition of the pitch but not even that could have prepared me for the state of our changing facilities (I hope you now realise how lucky our club is boys) and I hope that everyone who used the showers got tetanus jabs afterwards.

Anyway, on to the game...

We lined up… Stewart in goal; a solid back four of Rob, Steve B, Joe and Colin; Chris Viner, Sticky, Alex and Shep in the middle of the park and Djan and Craig leading the attack. Subs: Paul Edwards, Tom Hughes, and Mike Seymour.

We pretty much dominated the first half, defending solidly with Biggin Hill only having 2 real chances; the first came straight from kick off where their attacker somehow pulled away from Rob, being one on one I stood my ground and luckily he drilled his shot straight at me, the other was blocked with a great timely tackle from Chris on the penalty spot.

We dominated in the midfield, not letting anything come through the middle and created lots of chances with Shep and Chris running the wings crossing well, and it was only a matter of time until we put one away - it wasn’t the prettiest of goals but as the saying goes every hole''s a goal (or is it they all count?).

Half Time 1- 0 up. We knew Biggin hill were going to come out in the 2nd half all guns blazing and that they did. We lost our grip on the midfield, but to be fair they resorted to the long ball over the top. With our fitness levels showing, Biggin Hill started an onslaught. Chance after chance, corner after corner but we stood our ground and a couple of good saves later and a great block on the line from Shep we were still 1 up. Time for some changes. Mike Seymour came on up front for Craig, then Paul Edwards came on for Chris. Both looked good in the respective positions, Mike creating chances and Paul using his legs to get up and down the wing.

With about 5 minutes to go the tide turned with their youngsters all going down with cramp which I think our older boys loved, I heard Steve telling one of them off for being so unfit.

We held on for the win, overall a good performance although we did make the 2nd half hard work.

Well done all.
