Second XI
0 - 2
Bridon Ropes Res.

By Sam Evans

Against my better judgment I’ve decided to write a brief match report. This wasn’t a complete horror show – we did play some decent stuff in places. But we never looked like we were going to score.

Our team was:

Mark Edwards – Goalkeeper
Richard Tapsfield – Left Back (Sub Paul Parsons 55 minutes)
Pete Morton – Right Back (Sub Jay Blay 45 minutes)
Adam Benningfield – Centre Back
Richard Davies – Centre Back
Anthony Dine – Left Midfield
Sam Evans – Right Midfield
Daragh Nott – Centre Midfield
Nick Hardway – Centre Midfield
Dan Head – Centre Forward
Paul Tanton – Centre Forward

Jay Blay - Substitute
Paul Parsons – Substitute

They scored after 30 minutes. A long ball over the top found their striker in space and he finished well. The striker was their best player; fast, a good touch, and not scared to put himself about. Apart from that, neither team created much in the first half. We switched to 3-5-2 in the second half. Jay Blay came in on right midfield, replacing Pete Morton. This left Richard Tapsfield, Adam Benningfield and Richard Davies at the back, and I went into centre midfield alongside Daragh Nott and Nick Hardway.

We started the second half dreadfully and had Mark Edwards to thank for keeping the score at 1-0 with a string of excellent saves. Midway through the half we improved, and created a half chance which Paul Tanton was just unable to direct towards goal. Nick Hardway had an impressive debut in the centre of the park and had some good shots from outside the box which just missed the target. Nick is a big, strong lad with a decent touch who I’m sure will be an asset to us.

We conceded a second with 10 minutes to go as we failed to clear the ball and it was turned in at the far post. All in all very disappointing today for a game we really wanted to win. Next week is Seven Acre Sports and we need to pick ourselves up as that is a big game too. Man of the match today was Nick Hardway who took the majority of the votes, the remainder being split between Mark Edwards and Dan Head.

Man of the match: Nick Hardway
