Menage a trois - Young Vets tete de veau vs Peckham Rye

Player ratings out of 10

GK - Gary Rosslee, 7
Much improved performance compared to last outing, excellent kicking and unlucky not to save the Peckham Penalty in the first half.

LB – Mark Friend, 7
Coped well at left back against his man and won nigh on every header. (Might have had something to do with the Kangaroo burgers he consumed the night before?)

CB - Rowan Foggitt, 8
Unlucky to concede the first half penalty. But matched the spritely Peckham Rye centre forward in every department, pace, skill, strength and……….well you know 

CB – Andy Cobham, 7.
On hand to make vital challenges, an impressive total pass yardage of 6 yards today!

RB – Brett Cheesman, 7
Linked up well with Rawley on the right and did well against the Peckham Rye lively wingers and forwards. Involved in first goal.

LM – Ben Clunge, 4.
Fell over a few times, missed an easy chance late on that would have settled any Farnborough nerves. (Might have had something to do with the cr*p burgers he consumed the night before?)

CM- Jim St John, 8,
Physical performance in the middle of the park, didn’t back down all game and capped his performance with a well taken goal, to be fair I think it’s the first time I have seen him keep a shot on the ground!

CM - Dean Murphy, 8.
His legs must be feeling it today after constantly running for 90 minutes in that quagmire of a pitch!

RM – Chris Rawley, 7
Doubled up well at McDonalds…er I mean on the right hand side with Cheesman. Looked more than comfortable in midfield

CF – Pete Harvey, 9 MOM
Best display this season from him, set up Davies and St John in the first half and scored a worldy (some say it was a cross, but you have to give the benefit of the doubt to the striker) took one for the team late on and even had the stud marks down his leg to prove it!

CF- Si Davies, 8.
Growing in confidence, Farnborough’s answer to Olivier Giroud (quite apt that he’s not about next week as he’s actually in France) Rounded the Peckham goalkeeper and kept his cool to open the scoring! Tres bien!

Match summary,

There were only 5 of the same Farnborough players who played in last year’s fixture in our starting XI today so those who were present 12 months previously knew that there was a lot at stake today given that we had somehow capitulated in 45 second half minutes and surrendered a 3 goal lead against them. Neither team’s preparations were far from ideal as Farnborough were left waiting out on the pitch for 30 minutes without Peckham opposite them as they had arrived at Griffin Sports, Dulwich Village in a yellow kit of their own!!

When the game finally got under way the pitch was now a complete nightmare through the middle of it and therefore the wings should have been utilised far much more throughout this encounter. Farnborough were equal to everything and more that Peckham had to throw at them, the physical aspect was superbly marshalled by Jim St John, the energy was supplied by Dean Murphy, and the craftsmanship by Pete Harvey!

Peckham are one of the better teams we play against which is what made todays victory even sweeter and without the luxury of any subs. Next week we are at home to Toby Vets, our reverse fixture fell foul to the bad weather only a few weeks ago so let’s keep our fingers crossed that mother nature doesn’t deny us the opportunity to pit ourselves against them again.

Man of the match: Pete Harvey
