Rolling Back the Years - Part One

Not even reporting anything from the first half, it was that bad. Our half time team talk went like this:

"It is physically impossible for us to play that badly again. Let's go and win."

We were 1-0 down at HT.

An inspired injury to myself allowed / forced us to use our only sub at half time. Russell.

So with me off and Russ on we had to reshuffle a bit and change from an ineffective 4-4-2, to our favoured 4-3-3. At the tip of our midfield 3 was the mercurial, Jamie Redknapp lookalike, Mr Nethercot. Playing his final game of his 20's he looked not a day over 18, inspiring those around him to stop being so useless. Tackles, headers, shots (plural), falling over and some awesome noises. This worked a treat and about an hour in we equalised. Ad Ellson put in a trademark tackle, the ball reached Danny G, who smashed home a left, yeah left, foot volley. Spurred on by Russ, who broke their left back in two and forced him off, we turned the game around with about 15 to go. Ellis handballed it, a few times, jinked past a defender and slotted a lovely ball to Ad.

Now, captain fantastic's calmness in front of goal isn't his biggest attribute. However this time a precise finish won us the game.

A struggle, but 3 more points and we keep the pressure on Stansfeld.

Al Barnes' dog popped in the changing room after, he promptly left when Kev got a bit excited.
