Match Report

Saturday 30th July 2016

Friendly

Welling Park
5 - 1
Fourth XI
Dan Herbert (pen.)

By Jez Allen

Playing against Welling Park, effectively 2 divisions higher than us, we held our own on a truly terrible pitch going in 1-1 at half-time thanks to a Dan Herbert penalty for the Guild. With 65 minutes gone we conceded two quick goals which took the wind out of our sails. WP then scored a further two late on which gave them a very flattering 5-1 final score. With a much changed side from last season with half of the 14 players new to the side, it was still an encouraging start to the season. Man of the match votes were shared amongst three players, Dan Herbert, Jamie Allen and Jez Allen, with the latter picking up half of the votes.

A minute's silence was held before the game in memory of John Cooper, who sadly passed away during the week. Even though it was only a friendly, he'd have been very proud of the way the game was played with not one bad tackle or bad word said throughout the whole game. He will be sadly missed by anybody who has ever had anything to do with the BDFL.

Man of the match: Jez Allen
