Finding Gibbo

What a properly enjoyable day, apart from a couple more injuries!

After 2 defeats to Elmstead in 4 days effectively ended our season (no match reports for those games, because we lost) with 5 games still to play we decided to focus on doing what we do best today, having a laugh.

It started funny, got funnier, then got interrupted by 90 minutes of football before we enjoyed the best showers we've had all season.

Our maverick keeper decided to go on the missing list, prompting an exciting game of "Finding Gibbo". Barnsey found him, just wandering about. Danny then told us an incredibly funny story which included the line "chubbier than previously advertised".

The game started well with both sides knocking it about nicely. Russ fell over whilst trying to kick the ball, which led to me and Gibbo laughing uncontrollably as the game continued. Not to be outdone by Nev, their striker went through on goal and got taken out by the same sniper.

Danny Godward opened the scoring with a cracking strike from about 20 yards. Then came my favourite moment of the season. I won a ball in midfield and played it to Crossy, who flicked it first time through their full back's legs to Ellis. He floated over a great cross to our non-goal scoring centre forward. Russ powered a diving header into the top corner. The celebration was priceless. Just got up and said "that's well funny".

Before the goals Dave Martin had to go off injured. He broke his penis.

Lou Hussey replaced him at left back, and did a great job in an unaccustomed role.

The second half started well and we looked comfortable. Until Gibbo got a nasty looking injury about 15 minutes into the half. Barnsey took over in goal and did a blinding job.

Rest of the game was scrappy. They scored when Ellis allowed his man to run away from him and volley home well.

We hung on to get another win under our belts. Still a chance of going up so not a totally lost season.

No bookings today, which was nice.

We took 2 votes for MOM, both Ren and Russ said it was either me or Ellis, that was enough for us two to claim a joint award.

We have to play on Tuesday, we have no squad. If anyone likes football and can walk upright, you're in. Midweek games are getting ridiculous!
