Sunday XI
Adam Dawson 3, OG
4 - 3
Centaurs

By Paul Tanton

At last we have won a game, dis-proving what one or two people thought that we wouldn''t win one game all season (I hope they are now eating there words). However we very nearly lost this one.
For the first time this season we had 14 good players available and it showed. Kicking off against the wind we were in control of the game and nearly went ahead in the first minute (Adam going close from Jay Hardy''s pass). For the next half hour we were doing well then lost our concentration and Centaurs went ahead. A few minutes later we were 2 down due to not playing to the whistle.
At half time I said not to let that happen again only for the defence takes absolutely no notice at all and we concede a identical goal to Centaurs second. 3 nil down with 40 minutes to go. I struggled to remember ever seeing 3 more diabolical goals. Changes would have to be made and the manager and his ginger side-kick played a masterstroke, bringing on Andy Cob and pushing Matt Pragnell into midfield. We suddenly realised remembered how to play football. Straight away Paul ''Disco'' Tanton got his first of the season a fine finish from a Dawson pass.
Dawson kicked into gear with a fine finish lobbing the keeper after good work from Moulson. 3 - 2 and game on. Then 3 - 3, Dawson and Moulson again combining. With Dawson scoring another well taken goal. As players began to tire Evans and Nott were introduce to give us fresh legs. The game was now end to end with chances at either end. With a few minutes to go Dawson won us the game finishing emphatically from another Moulson pass. We closed out the game and could of gone further ahead with Bobby hitting the bar from close range. His work rate really deserved a goal and hopefully he''ll get a couple this week.
We didn''t do a vote there were several very good performances so I suspect the man of the match would have been split

The reasons why we nearly lost - we must play to the whistle at all times no matter how much you disagree with the ref, not argue with the ref or each other whilst the game is still going on. If this happens again Vic will pelt you all with water bottles!!

The reasons why we won - A goalkeeper, a centre forward, work rate, 3 good subs (giving options to make changes) and everyone having a good attitude and spirit when they remember they were playing a game of football.

Catford Cricket Club this week and a similar sort of result and no drop outs would be nice
